I was expecting company and I was cleaning like it was what I put on this Earth to do…because I hadn’t done much of it for two weeks earlier.
There’s a moment where you believe you’ve done all the cleaning you can and then about fifteen minutes before guests are set to arrive, you find some part of the house that looks like you haven’t touched it in about a hundred years, despite cleaning regularly.
Naturally, that’s what happened while I was in the bathroom getting ready in the final moments before my guest arrived.
I reached immediately for the duster and then for the cleaning solution to do the final wipe down, feeling immensely grateful for seeing the last of the cleaning done with time to spare before anyone arrived. Before I got to work, I saw the light catch one lump of dust and therein, was the perfect heart shape.
The heart showed up as a playful reminder that no one will be standing there, judging whether or not I had the cleanest house; No one will be waiting for perfection and if so, it will just be me imposing that standard.
Done and dusted. Pun intended and for the record, I had a wonderful time, because I committed myself to letting go of the need to be perfect.
