Camping Hearts

It was the middle of October and an insanely cold weekend.

Naturally, the conditions were perfect for camping.

Friends knew I was under a lot of pressure and that my heart was palpitating so that I needed to slow down. I thought there would be no better way to get away for the weekend and from the moment I settled our things into the tent, I knew it was going to be a great weekend.

The first night we were there, we had a blazing fire and were joined by other campers who unlike others, were lingering in the park beyond the typical season.

The first morning greeted me to an early chill in the air and stone grey skies. I was awake before everyone else had the chance to rise to greet the day and I wandered off the beaten path ever so slightly to explore the surrounding area.

We were surrounded by so much breathtaking beauty and for reasons other than the scenery, that trip was one of the highlights of Autumn for me. It took getting away to realize what I genuinely needed to best handle what life was throwing my way at the time. Moreover, there are few places to be like outside and surrounded by more greenery than anything else.

It rained for most of the Saturday we were there and with the break in the clouds, even the moon put on a stunning display.

I went for a walk down to the nearby river and while listening to the gentle waters slip over the rock punctuating an otherwise smooth surface near the shore, I spotted a heart in the water, as if to say, “This moment is perfect and it’s worth stopping to breathe it all in.”

And so, I did.
